Wool is bacteriostatic, and dirt usually does not penetrate the fibres, but settles on the outside. The wool fibres are made up of a number of air pockets, which are carriers of dirt, odours, moisture and the like from the body or from the outside, and this is separated out by simply airing in fresh air for a couple of hours. - Wool insulates like a thermos because it consists of 80 per cent air. Stagnant air is the secret of all insulation. - Wool warms even when wet and can absorb moisture up to 30% of its own weight. Wool rugs therefore work well as drying rugs
